The Kek Lok Si Temple (simplified Chinese: 极乐寺; traditional Chinese: 極樂寺; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Ki̍k-lo̍k-sī; Penang Hokkien for “Temple of Supreme Bliss” or “Temple of Sukhavati” or “Jile Si”) is a Buddhist temple situated in Air Itam in Penang facing the sea and commanding an impressive view, and is one of the best known temples on the island. It is said to be the largest Buddhist temple in Malaysia. It is also an important pilgrimage centre for Buddhists from Hong Kong, the Philippines, Singapore and other countries in Southeast Asia. This entire complex of temples was built over a period from 1890 to 1930, an inspirational initiative of Beow Lean, the Abbot. The main draw in the complex is the striking seven-storey Pagoda of Rama VI (Pagoda of Ten Thousand Buddhas) with 10,000 alabaster and bronze statues of Buddha, and the 30.2 metres (99 ft) tall bronze statue of Kuan Yin…

Dengue In Malaysia Watch CDC

What is the current situation?

According to the World Health Organization, from October 18-24, 2015, there were 2,286 cases of dengue reported in Malaysia.

Travelers to Malaysia should protect themselves against mosquito bites to avoid getting dengue.

What can travelers do to prevent dengue?

Learn more about dengue.

No vaccine or medicine can prevent dengue. Travelers can protect themselves by preventing mosquito bites.

Prevent mosquito bites:

  • Cover exposed skin by wearing long-sleeved shirts, long pants, and hats.
  • Use an insect repellent as directed.
  • Higher percentages of active ingredient provide longer protection. Use products with the following active ingredients:
    • DEET (products containing DEET include Off!, Cutter, Sawyer, and Ultrathon)
    • Picaridin (also known as KBR 3023, Bayrepel, and icaridin; products containing picaridin include Cutter Advanced, Skin So Soft Bug Guard Plus, and Autan [outside the United States])
    • Oil of lemon eucalyptus (OLE) or PMD (products containing OLE include Repel and Off! Botanicals)
    • IR3535 (products containing IR3535 include Skin So Soft Bug Guard Plus Expedition and SkinSmart)
  • Always follow product directions and reapply as directed:
  • If you are also using sunscreen, apply sunscreen first and insect repellent second.
  • Follow package directions when applying repellent on children. Avoid applying repellent to their hands, eyes, and mouth.
  • Treated clothing remains protective after multiple washings. See the product information to find out how long the protection will last.
  • If treating items yourself, follow the product instructions carefully.
  • Do not use permethrin directly on skin.
  • Use permethrin-treated clothing and gear (such as boots, pants, socks, and tents). You can buy pretreated clothing and gear or treat them yourself:
  • Stay and sleep in screened or air conditioned rooms.
  • Use a bed net if the area where you are sleeping is exposed to the outdoors.

If you feel sick and think you may have dengue:

  • Talk to your doctor or nurse if you feel seriously ill, especially if you have a fever.

She Walks the World

The Hard Rock Hotel Penang is located along the coastal stretch of Batu Ferringhi, in Malaysia’s northern island state of Penang. It is one of the most popular tourist spots on the island– a stretch of beach lined with world-class resorts, hotels and ritzy condominiums. The beach itself isn’t anything to shout about, but with the luxury and comfort most of the resorts provide; it more than makes up for it.

And of course, if you’re staying in a resort like the Hard Rock– with specially designed rooms, sandy bottom swimming pools and fun-filled activities; there is really no need to go anywhere else.

The Hard Rock Hotel PenangOverview
I stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel Penang a couple of times when I visited Batu Ferringhi. It is one of the more prominent resorts along this stretch of coastal road– after all, who can miss its signature purple sign? Just like the other few…
