Couple days ago went to Wat Chalong Buddhist Temple to photograph the Lotus Pond. To my surprise not one lotus or water lily left. Only the invasive Water Hyacinth. Killed off all the Lotus plants.
Eichhornia crassipes, commonly known as common water hyacinth, is an aquatic plant native to the Amazon basin, and is often a highly problematic invasive species outside its native range.
When not controlled, water hyacinth will cover lakes and ponds entirely; this dramatically affects water flow, blocks sunlight from reaching native aquatic plants which often die. The decay processes depletes dissolved oxygen in the water, often killing fish (or turtles).The plants also create a prime habitat for mosquitos.
