I have taken the bus between Phuket and Bangkok several times over the years. It is cheap and not that bad.
The bus station in Phuket is only couple years old, clean and plenty of places to grab something to eat. Located north of town going toward the airport. There are two types of buses VIP and regular. The price is not that much different but the extra leg room, suggest the VIP! For more information on the bus companies check our page on Bus Travel in Thailand You can buy tickets at the bus station on the day of travel but if wanting to travel VIP suggest buying a day in advance. There is a taxi stand at the terminal and also a long term parking garage. For a motorbike 30 bht a day.

half way to Bangkok they stop for about 30 min for a break, lot of food at Chumphon
make sure you check your bus number before eating. Not unusual for 20 buses to be lined up. restrooms kinda clean!
In Bangkok 2 main terminals and when arriving does not make much difference to me. The older bus terminal Mo Chit or Northern bus terminal or the Southern Bus Terminal Sai Tai. When leaving Bangkok to Phuket, suggest the Southern Bus Terminal as newer, nice shopping, places to eat, and even some good places for a massage!
